Child support is for needy children. It is not for greedy ex-spouses or government officials.
Child support enforcement is a welfare service for needy children, which is regulated by Title IV-D of the Social Security Act. According to the law, in order for a custodial parent to qualify for enforcement services, their children must be needy by definition, which makes the vast majority of the cases opened for middle and upper-middle class parents ILLEGAL. The custodial parent signs an "assignment of rights" to the CSE agency for collection, which I believe must be disclosed to the other parent but rarely is, which is also ILLEGAL.
The basic factors that determine child support are shelter, food, clothing and education. In my case, the judge gave my wife my share of the paid-off home I built on 27 acres in the foothills up from Denver, but forgot to give me credit for the shelter factor - Oops. I am not about to pay it again!
I worked double-time averaging over 80 hours per week and scrimped and saved for 25 years to accomplish a career-long goal to build my family's home, pay it off, and semi-retire to spend time with my 5 children while they grew up. All of my savings and investments would have easily paid for the care of my children while they grew up. I consider myself paid-in-full for child support and have absolutely no intention of paying another dime.
I'm glad I took the time to learn what child support is for and how it is calculated, and I urge everyone to do the same. In addition to the illegal assignment of rights, you will likely discover that you were ripped off in other ways and denied due processes.
