* ALERT *
Georgia HB 189 has already past muster by an overwhelming majority on March 12, 2009 in the House of Representatives.
A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Chapter 11 of Title 19 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to enforcement of duty of support, so as to provide legislative intent; to provide for child support collection options; to change provisions relating to payment of child support held by the Child Support Enforcement Agency of the Department of Human Resources; to provide for definitions; to provide for contract requirements; to provide for prohibited practices of private child support collectors; to provide for cancellation or termination of the contract; to provide for other remedies; to provide for related matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
It was read before the Georgia Senate just yesterday and is apparently now before the Senate Committee on Judiciary. According to a not-to-be-directly-disclosed-by-name GA Senator from my District, just this afternoon verbally indicated to me that this bill is "not good". The current legislative session is due to conclude on April 3rd.
Time is of the essence here folks. If you don't agree with this legislation (I for one do not), then you need to go here RIGHT NOW, fill in your info in the Secretary of State Poll Locator form, click submit, then click on the District link next to Georgia Senate in the Your Elected Representatives area, then click the Continue button, click on the name link of the GA Senator appearing just above his/her photo, and call them up at any of the provided conntact numbers (preferably their Capitol Office one), and let the answering office receptionist know of your wishes as to how you want your district's Senator to vote on HB 189.
State your name and address if requested, return phone number followed by ... "I request that Senator ________ vote 'Nay' or NOT in favor of House Bill 189."
That's all you have to state.
Be sure to forward this heads up email to all of your State of Georgia contacts. GO.
