I have a friend in the Bartow County Jail that has been arrested for non payment of support. I am writing because I mailed him a bunch of legal information I found on the web about legitimation. Some of the info was from state websites. They took the information and said he did not need anyone acting as a lawyer. I will be contacting the sheriff about this later on. I thought legal info would be the only appropriate info to share. At any rate I will be helping my friend any way I can.
P.S. His situation was he was out of work and in our present economy could not find any.

For goodness sake, he's in jail, he needs someone to inform him of his rights and how to get out of this mess! There is an abundance of information on this website under the "GEORGIA" forum.
Sounds like your friend needed to file a motion to reduce his child support amount when his earning ability changed.
Thank you for joining our forum. If there's anything FRAMED or I can do to help your friend, please let us know. He is one of many being held in our country's debtor's prisons.

It sounds as if your friend may end up staying in jail for a while unless someone comes up with the arrears to get him out. Thats usually how they play this game here in Georgia. There's other things that may be filed too to throw wrenches into the system if necessary. As for legitimation, I have been through this process in GA myself and have alot about it in the GA section here. There's alot about Child Support and other legalities of GA too in there that may be helpful. If you have any questions just let us know and we will do what we can to help. Without knowing any further details or the history of this persons case there isn't much more I can say at this point.

Thank you for the info. We started a job search with this friend Ray, for short. He was working for City of Acworth for parks and recreation but this was only summer employment and he was out of work since last September. He bicycled to work and was doing good I thought. The economic downturn put him behind on work. He should have contacted Child Support about the situation but didn't opting to wait for his next court visit. As far as his fine is concerned its difficult to help him out there. Hopefully he can get an opportunity in work release. I was told he has access to a law library there. I will send him some more mail and forward any other messages via face to face. Yes I will document everything.

keep me posted, and if you need any help let me know, I and a few others I know are pretty knowledgable with GA code and procedure in some of these types of situations.
I'm sure he will have difficulty trying to access a law library, let alone a pen and paper or a copy machine from his jail cell. These people don't give a damn and it will probably take outside help for him to get anywhere.

You may want to look into filing Habeas Corpus, it will take some studying and probably some help to file it. These usually don't work but it will show the Judge something is being done about this guy unconstitutionally sitting in jail for a civil debt. I'd have him file everything he can, modification of child support, civil suits, etc etc, they will let him out eventually when the court dockets are full with cases pending with his name on them. framedfathers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gahabeascorpus
